Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge Cleanup 2009
On Saturday, September 19, 2009, volunteers from across our region joined the Friends of Crab Orchard Refuge for the annual Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge Cleanup. Volunteers registered at the Prairie Creek Recreation Area (Old Images Marina) located on Route 13 at 8 a.m. and were assigned locations to clean up, provided safety instructions and clean up supplies.
The volunteers represented a cross section of our region from young children to older adults. Groups represented included:

- Many families & individual volunteers
At the end of a long morning of volunteering, lunch and free T-shirts were provided.
As you will see in the photos below, the day was tremendously productive and an enjoyable day. Beautify Southern Illinois says thank you to all who volunteered to help the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge... one of the true gems of southern Illinois!
