2009 Earth Awareness Exhibit a Big Success
On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, just under 600 first grade students and their teachers attended the 2009 Earth Awareness Exhibit at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Center. The event was co-sponsored by the SIUC Beautify Southern Illinois Student Alliance, SIUC Center for Environmental Health & Safety, and SIUC Student Development.
Schools from several southern Illinois communities attended, including:
- Denning Elementary School, West Frankfort
- Trico Elementary School, Campbell Hill
- Jonesboro Elementary School, Jonesboro
- Saint Andrew School, Murphysboro
- Immanuel Lutheran School, Murphysboro
- Carruthers Elementary School, Murphysboro
- The New School, Carbondale
- DeSoto Elementary School, DeSoto
- Parrish Elementary School, Carbondale
Students rotated through a number of information stations learning about a variety of Earth-related topics such as solar power; recycling and litter; vermicomposting (the "worm" project); how birds make a living; pollinators and environmental art.
